What does “Shred” actually mean?
Am I a shredder and I don’t know it?
I often get the question of “what does it mean to shred? Don’t tell anyone I don’t know.” There is no shame in not knowing and please always feel free to reach out with any questions. I will 100% do my best to help in any way I can.
HISTORY: Shred 101
Allow me to introduce a short history of the word shred as defined perfectly by UrbanDictionary.com (who is the internet authority on slang definitions in my humble opinion).
Shred started with a phrase:
to shred the gnar originated in the early days of skateboarding. gnar shredding has become popular for many ‘extreme sports’ including skiing and snowboarding.
Sounds intense, doesn’t really explain what it means but in general it was considered badass if you could shred the gnar (aka do really cool things) on a skateboard back in the day.
Now the definition of shred has been simplified and expanded to something truly wonderful:
Its a Go Hard Attitude with a Conquer All Mentality
Surfing while catching the most amazing wave. Skating and doing the most amazing tricks. Snowboarding and shredding like you’ve never shred before
The Present Time
With that in mind and envisioning a community of women who do amazing things on all levels Ladies Who Shred was named.
We are a community of women who believe we can do more than what we’ve been told. Whether that’s getting off the couch and going for a walk down the street where everyone can see us but not caring and maybe even enjoying being seen or if it’s getting on a snowboard and doing the bunny hill or the half pipe we are all Ladies Who Shred. Anything active/outdoors that you do with an attitude of I’m gonna make this happen is shredding.
You my dear, are a lady shredder. Welcome to the club! ❤️ Can’t wait to see what kind of shredding you are passionate about and what you try out next.
